The main objective of this unit is to protect people of Sri Lanka from disease threats of international spread. The main functions of the units include implementation of Quarantine and prevention of diseases ordinance of 1897, and International Health Regulations (IHR-2005).

Airport Health Office, Bandaranayake International Airport (BIA) Katunayake, Port Health Office, Colombo Harbor, Office of the Assistant Port Health Officer, at MRI (vaccinations only), Port Health Office at Galle, Port Health Office at Rajapaksha International Port-Hambantota are carrying out the disease detection, reporting, emergency preparedness activities at the point of entries (POE) under the guidance of this unit. New units were established in Airport Health Office, Mattala and Port Health Office at Trincomalee harbor.
